Project Description

To fulfill the objectives Netkrom deployed 7 Wireless Base Stations using the Dual Band Pre-Wimax Radio properly distributed all over the city of Cajamarca giving Internet Access and interconnecting all council offices offering multiple services in a decentralized way.

The seven Netkrom Wireless Base Stations used in Cajamarca city have three different subnets, segmenting the Broadcast Domain generated by IP Data Traffic of:

  • LANs in council offices.

  • WLANs working at 5.8GHz (operating as the Backbone of the Wireless Platform).

  • WLAN of mobile users (laptops, Pocket PC, etc.) that would like to log in to the Wireless Internet Service (HOT SPOT) at 2.4GHz offered by the Municipality of Cajamarca.

According to Network Diagram, Wireless Base Stations connect to each other through the BACKBONE at 5.8GHz supporting the TCP/IP traffic generated by the Subnet segments above mentioned.
  •

The ISP-BS500 offers these services using dynamic routing applications RIP, DHCP, NAT, Quality of Service QoS and security WPA2.

Geographic Distribution of the seven Wireless Base Stations in Cajamarca City.

Wireless Equipment used in each Wireless Base Station

  • Model: ISP-BS500

  • ISPAIR Tri-Band 2.4/4.9/5GHz 802.11a/b/g Base Station AP with Backhaul 4-RF Port Radio 400mW.
Wireless ROUTER equipment with four High Power wireless ports - 802.11a/b/g standard-compliant – three of them connected to 120 degree Sector Panel Antennas focusing the 2.4 GHz wireless signal on places where Hot Spots are needed; and the fourth port connected to a directive antenna for a 5.8 Ghz Point to Point Wireless link to connect this Base Station to a Remote one.

  • Model: W58-26G

  • 5.8GHz 26dBi Parabolic Grid Antenna.
5.8 GHz Directive Antenna used for BACKBONE for interconnecting each Wireless Base Station.

  • Model: W24-16SP120

  • 2.3 - 2.7 GHz 16dBi 120º Sector Panel Antenna VPOL
120 degree Sector Panel Antenna used in HOT SPOTs focused on strategic places all around Cajamarca city.

    Benefits:

     Networking
    • City Hall Headquarters wirelessly interconnected.- All employees from each City Hall Headquarter take advantage of the connectivity between their PCs, having a better management of the information and network resources.

    • High data rate transmission capability.- Before the Wireless Solution was implemented some headquarters were interconnected using VPN’s through the local ISP with data rates from 256 Kbps to 512 Kbps. When the Wireless Solution was finished the real throughput achieved was about 10 to 15 Mbps on different locations.
     Wireless LAN
    • Wireless Platform with Outstanding Performance.- This solutions permits mobile users (laptops) to have Internet Access and unify the City Hall Department LAN using the most advanced security features (Encryption, Authentication and Segmentation of Networks) assigning a specific Bandwidth to the connected Networks (QoS).

    • User Mobility.- The WLAN has been deployed in a way that an end-user can have the capacity of moving from one place to another having a permanent Internet Access not taking notice of the change from one Wireless Base Station to another.
     Services
    • Data, Voice and Video using TCP/IP protocol.- Every City Hall Headquarter is able to use a zero-cost Voice over IP service, and Video over IP to improve the efficiency of its personnel using videoconference.

    • On-line Multiple Services.- This Governmental organization will be able to offer on-line services for their citizens, such as tax payment, checking records, legal actions and even getting access to the INTRANET from the comfort of their homes with a previous permission to do so.
     Short-Term Benefits
    • Upgradeable to Superior Technologies in Peru.- The Wireless Base Stations are upgradeable to WiMAX or can be used on the Public-Safety Band of 4.9GHz.
