Public Safety

The Federal Government recognized that the lack of public bandwidth was hindering public safety and homeland security. They mandated in 2002 that a new frequency band, the 4.9GHz band or more specifically, 50 MHz in the 4.9GHz band, would be assigned for high-power (up to 2 watts) data/voice equipment that follows certain specifications.

The advantage of this network is that all users and devices attach directly to the wireless backbone and seamlessly integrate with networks inside buildings, police and fire vehicles, fixed and mobile cameras, VoIP phone systems, gunshot detectors, and even UAV’s (unmanned aerial vehicles).

A network powered by NETKROM provides secure, high-speed access for emergency services or security personnel while they are on the job. Using either a PCMCIA card with a laptop or PDA in a portable or mobile setting or a battery powered modem the size of a deck of playing cards that connects to any computer or LAN using an Ethernet or USB interface in a portable or fixed setting, Netkrom technology gives personnel the ability to stay connected at broadband speeds anywhere in the wide coverage area.

Such convenient, always-connected devices mean, for example, that a police officer would no longer need to return to the squad car to check an offender's data, thus increasing the officer's roadside safety as well as speed at which he or she can do their job.

In addition, Netkrom technology works at vehicular speeds, even at more than 80 miles per hour with seamless mobility, handing the connection off between cells, so critical links are never lost. And because each device is equipped with a SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) card reader, Netkrom provides one of the most secure networks available today.

Municipalities and public safety agencies can now create converged wireless networks serving different user groups on common wireless infrastructure. The user groups are able to be separated at the link layer (using different, dedicated spectrum) or virtually (using VPNs and VAPs), as well as being differentiated from a security and quality of service perspective. These user groups may be:

  • Municipal workers
  • First responders (such as police and emergency services)
  • Public
  • Other government agencies

Netkrom's technology allows network owners to deploy wireless network nodes that support 900Mhz, 2.4GHz, 4.9GHz and 5.8GHz radios (in any combination of four radios per node) to create converged networks supporting fixed and mobile broadband applications such as:

  • VoIP
  • Surveillance cameras / CCTV
  • Remote, real-time access to police / corporate networks
  • Email
  • Internet access

Municipalities and public safety agencies deploying Netkrom converged wireless networks will be able to take advantage of:

  • Unmatched quad-band and multi-radio flexibility
  • Unparalleled network economics and lowest cost per square mile
  • Leading support for high-speed mobile applications
  • Feature-rich configuration options
  • System scalability
  • Unmatched upgradeability for new radio and application functionality
